TRADE BEAD COPIES

Is it real or fake? How do you know if the bead you are looking at is really an old trade bead or a copy? There are many books available with good pictures and discriptions of trade beads and these are valuable resources to work from, but nothing beats experience. Now, if you do not have the experience, what is the next best thing? Right, ask someone. Who do you ask? Right again, a bead dealer. Just remember one thing, that bead dealer is SELLING beads. Can you trust him? Most of the time the answer is yes. Why, because he or she wants you to be happy with your beads and come back for more. However, there are a few who are out to make a quick buck and will tell you anything to get you to part with some of your hard earned cash. These are the ones you have to look out for. How do you know which is which, you don't until you get to know them. The best advice I can give you is "GET TO KNOW YOUR DEALER". Ask him questions, will he stand behind his beads, will he buy them back if you're not satisfied, does he know the difference between a fake and a real trade bead and will he take the time to explain it to you. Don't be afraid to ask the same questions you would ask a used car dealer, after all, both purchases are an investment and you want the most for your money. Can an honest bead dealer make a mistake? You bet and he will be the first one to admit it if you bring it to his attention. Never be afraid to ask questions, but if a deal looks to good too be true, it just might be! Get to know your dealer and you can't go too far wrong.
